The preference dance took place last Saturday, Dec. 12th .The theme of the dance was Winter Wonderland. The dance was hosted by SFHS Drill Team. Boys were selected to compete for the dance royalty. The different categories were Mr. Christmas Carol, Mr. Christmas Cheer, and Mr. Brownose Reindeer. The contestants for Mr. Christmas Carol sang Jingle Bells. They were Cameron Fullmer, Evan Anderson, and Justin Brierley. The contestants for Mr. Christmas Cheer performed a cheer they had made up and also did a relay race to finish it off.

Book Club Service

On Saturday, December 5th, the SFHS Book Club had an activity where they recorded children’s books on tapes for local elementary schools. These books included some Christmas stories and The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes and Tracker by Gary Paulsen. Through this service project, the Book Club hoped to achieve their goal of helping students of all ages to get excited about books. “I think anytime you can help young readers get hooked on reading, then you’re doing a good thing,” said Mrs. Gardner, the club advisor, about this service project.

SFHS Teddy Bear Project

Spanish Fork High School’s Letterman’s and HOSA clubs held a school wide project of collecting teddy bears. The teddy bears will be donated to many children care centers through out Utah as a form of treatment for children in need. The clubs decided to make it into a competition so students would be better motivated to participate.

Intern Enjoys work for The Sentinel

This week’s intern highlight is Kaleb Davis who interns as a photographer at The Sentinel. Unlike most interns, Davis doesn’t spend class time at his internship. He meets every week to get assignments for events, then goes out and take the pictures during the week at the different events, uploads them to the computer, picks the best ones and sends them in to the office. Davis enjoys working at this internship and learns a lot. “I really enjoy it.

Christmas Idol

This year’s Christmas Idol at Spanish Fork High is sure to be a blast. It will be on December 15th at 7:00 p.m., and it will be three dollars for admission. The talent show will be set up like American Idol, with three judges who are choosing their own characters to be. Auditions have taken place to choose both the judges as well as the contestants. Taylor Bramall has been responsible for planning the event. “Christmas Idol is going to be way fun! And it will be even better if more people come, so everyone needs to come!” Everyone come out and support this wonderful event.

Choral Gala

The Spanish Fork High School choirs are having their annual Christmas Choir Concert. The Christmas Gala is a night full of desserts, great music and great entertainment with great decorations that takes days to set up. The Christmas Gala is on December 10th and 11th. The price is $12, and you can buy tickets at the door. Christina Heywood had this to say, “This year’s Gala is going to be beautiful. Service Displayed through Horticulture

The horticulture students at Spanish Fork High School have been learning how to arrange flowers by creating centerpieces for Thanksgiving. These centerpieces include button daisies, two-toned daisies, carnations, and seeded eucalyptus. “We were trying to make sure it looks good from every view,” said Kylee DeGraw, one of the horticulture students. Through their flower arrangements, the horticulture students have been able to serve others and feel the joy that comes from this.

When talking to Michael Cope, a contestant in the essay portion of the contest, he said, “I had to think for a bit on what was most important to me in my life, and I decided on my family. I wrote about how my family influences me and makes me a better person by helping me set my standards high.

SFHS Reflection’s Contest Winners Announced

Reflections is a contest that has several different categories that aim to inspire creativity in students. Some of these categories include Photography, Dance, Literature, Art, and Music. The topic was “Beauty is…”. Topics of the entries ranged from essays about inner beauty to photographs of beautiful scenes. “This year’s topic was really good. It was inspiring. It made you think and inspired you to be a better person,” said Tyson Sperry, a contest winner in the category of Literature. Winners received money, coupons, and candy bars.

Stomp Out Hunger Dance Is a Huge Success

On Friday November 20th, 2009, Spanish Fork High School hosted the Stomp Out Hunger Dance in the D Gym. The student council was in charge of putting it on. Students from all the high schools in Nebo School district were invited, as well as some 9th graders from the schools in Spanish Fork. The price to get in was 5 dollars or 3 cans of food. The main purpose of the stomp was to raise food for Community Action in Provo. Ms. Youd, the advisor for student council at SFHS, feels the stomp was a huge success. They collected 1173 pounds of food for this good cause.
