Welcome to Spanish Fork High School

On Friday September 10th, Senior Council hosted their Senior Sunrise on their home football field. Seniors gathered around and ate muffins, and sipped hot chocolate while socializing and waiting for the sunrise. Students were arriving at 6:30 a.m. sharp. The sun came up at about 7:30, and seniors squeezed together for a group picture. It was fun and filled with smiles, showing off our Don Pride and continuing our Spanish Fork tradition. It was an awesome and amazing experience.

The SFHS Hope Squad is a group of students that were selected by their peers as students that were good listeners and trustworthy. They are organized to help and listen to other students who need someone to lean on. On September 7 and 10, Hope Squad members went to the Spanish Fork and Diamond Fork Junior Highs and taught the 8th grade health students important life lessons on self-esteem issues. The students participated in activities and games that helped them elarn how to build their own self-esteem as well as their peers.

Spanish Fork had the re-opening of North Park on August 28th. The new park has been completely re-modeled, and has much more to offer! There is less grass space than before, and more play ground area and water activities. The park is a great place for families to come for picnics, or to walk on the trail, or even to play on the playground. The water area is complete with shooting fountains that little children love to play in! The actual playground itself is much more modern, with a rock wall to climb, teeter-totters, a spider-web jungle gym, and much, much more!

This last Tuesday, September 7, the NHS officers held a meeting at Spanish Fork High School planning up some of the best service projects yet. With the help of a new plan of funding for these service projects, which involves students handing out fliers around town to leave porch lights on during a certain evening if citizens would like to donate, students plan to bring in more donations than ever into the service funds of NHS.

Born and raised in American Fork, Ellen Magleby is Spanish Fork High School’s new Guitar, Orchestra, Band and Marching Band teacher. Recently graduated from BYU in 2010, Ms. Magleby has a bachelor’s degree in music. She has performed in Europe and the Middle East, attending a music school in Austria and played in the Vietnamese Opera and Ballet Orchestra. She plays just about every instrument and is most proficient with the Saxophone which she has been playing for 12 years and has been involved with music for 15 years.
