Parent teacher conferences came abruptly this term--being the shortest term of the school year. At this event, Latinos In Action hosted their very first fundraiser; selling delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts and hot chocolate.  They also provided a fantastic day care for parents while they conferenced with teachers. The funds are going toward supplies for Brockbank Elementary. Every other day LIA walks down to Brockbank and tutors kids in reading.

The Lady Dons Basketball  hosted the Uintah Utes on Tuesday November 22 for their first win of the year. They were ready to begin the season with a win to prove that they have it in them to have a great season. Senior Kelli Hales and Junior Alyssa Brown both had a successful game with 10 points each. 

As evidenced by the sea of blue Future Farmers of America jackets, this year’s 84th national FFA convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana was one of the largest gathering of High School students in the country. Charlie Warren, Cheyeanne Jensen, Swasey Bliss, Casey Warren, and Wyatt Peay had the honor of being there while representing Spanish Fork High school.

Last week our school celebrated red ribbon week, a week to celebrate and spread awareness about being drug free. The National Honors Society sponsored the events throughout the week. On the first day of red ribbon week, the NHS passed out red wrist bands that said, "I pledge to be, DRUG FREE!" Students were challenged to wear these all week to help promote drug awareness. Red streamers, red balloons, red ribbons, and red ties could be found in the commons, on all the door handles of the school, on cars in the parking lot, etc.

Spanish Fork had a fantastic turn out for this year's blood drive.  If you didn't go yourself, it is likely you saw someone with a bandaged arm roaming the school with a smile on their face.  While sitting with a needle in your arm, did any of you wonder why you were doing this? Giving blood not only feels good, it has the possibility to save multiple lives.

On Thursday October 10 the Lady Dons volleyball team played North San Pete hawks, in a breast cancer awareness game. The lady dons wore pink bows in their hair while playing and on their right foot they had a pink shoe lace. The game was started with a dedicatory song for all those that are struggling with breast cancer, have fought the battle of cancer and those that have lost loved ones to breast cancer sung by Bridget Ausiata. Much of the student body came dressed in pink, supporting Breast cancer awareness month. And to cheer on the lady dons as they faced the lady Hawks.

Spanish Fork High is sponsoring a 5k/Fun Run for Jacob this coming Saturday. A few days ago we received a flyer on our door for this event. It reads:

"Come join us for a good time to help raise money for Jacob Woodward, a 5-year old boy that was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.

"WHERE: Spanish Fork High School (99 North 300 West, Spanish Fork, Utah, 84660)

"WHEN: October 29, 2011 @ 8:00 am

Stage. Set. Shakespeare! On October 7th through the 9th you may have noticed someone (or many) missing in your math class. It was the SFHS Shakespeare Team. Students made the long, exiting, and loud bus ride to Southern Utah University to compete in several events revolving around Shakespeare.  Marty Sperry, 11th grader at SFHS, said of the occasion, "Unity is no small word for this team. We celebrate together, party together, and support each other. Much like a family, we've got each other's backs.

John Perotti, a licensed therapist, visited Spanish Fork High School on Thursday, September 29th. He spoke to students about his job at Renaissance Ranch, a Drug Rehabilitation facility.  As an animated speaker, he enthralled the students with stories of patient's life stories, and helped students understand the difference between use, misuse, abuse, addiction and dependence. "Windows on the Workplace" is an excellent opportunity for  students get a glimpse into different careers by listening to experienced professionals.
