Spooky Times at Fall Spirit Bowl

Submitted by deon.youd on

The Dons scared up some hauntingly good fun at the fall spirit bowl assembly held Friday, October 31. Seniors, juniors, sophomores, and even faculty members competed against each other to win bragging rights and to build school spirit.

The games at this spirit bowl were Halloween themed. Students raced to bob for apples, find gumballs inside pumpkins, and wrap each other like mummies. They also played "spider ball," a version of crab soccer, and an enthusiastic game of musical chairs.

The cheerleaders, drill team, and dance company also performed at the assembly.

Good Grades Do Pay

Submitted by deon.youd on

Nicole Koyle, a senior at Spanish Fork High School, knows first hand that it pays to get As. She is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from Zion's Bank and the Pays for As program. Representatives from Zion's Bank surprised Nicole with the award at the Homecoming assembly in September.

"I didn't have any idea," said Koyle.

Koyle qualified for the scholarship by taking her report cards to Zions Bank where she earned $1 for each A. She said she knew that there was a drawing for a scholarship but didn't think much about it.

Reaching Across the Divide

Submitted by deon.youd on

It's time to REACH out to other people around you. That's the message students at Spanish Fork High School got this week as Character Counts Week kicked off the Reach program at our school.

Reach is a program run by students to encourage others to build connections and make sure everyone feels valued and connected.

Surveys conducted with students at SFHS revealed at roughly 130 students feel like they have no other person, student or teacher, that they connect with, explained Daniel Stodtmeister, a member of the Reach leadership team.
