Teddy Bears Abound
Hundreds of teddy bears are on their way to women's and children's centers all around Utah thanks to the generosity of Spanish Fork High's Leterman's Club and student body. This year's annual Teddy Bear Project brought in more than 600 stuffed animals to be given to children pulled from their homes because of a traumatic situation. The toys give comfort to children in these circumstances.
This year, SFHS teamed with Canyon Elementary and Spanish Oaks Elementary for a total of 1500 stuffed animals. Alli Lemon, president of SFHS's Letterman's Club donated the most: 164 stuffed toys.
Spanish Fork Students are Learning by Doing
Spanish Fork FFA students had the unique opportunity to not only raise over 400 turkey poults this year but were able to participate in the processing of the birds from start to finish.
NHS Spreads Thanksgiving Cheer
Members fo the National Honor Society made the Thanksgiving holiday a little brighter for several families in the Spanish Fork area with their annual Thanksgiving Dinner service project. The NHS gathered, packaged, and delivered turkeys and all the fixings to about 40 families on November 20, 2014.
The NHS gathers the names of families in need from other teachers at SFHS as well as local religious leaders. Using food donated during a food drive, the NHS makes sure each family gets a complete Thanksgiving meal.
Opening Night for Drowsy Chaperone
An enthusiastic cast is ready to take the stage. Thursday, November 20 is opening night for The Drowsy Chaperone, the SFHS fall musical. The show is set in the 1920s and promises to be full of laughter and fun.
"You'll laugh hysterically," said Kelsie Richards, a member of the cast.
Not only is the show funny, said many cast members, but it has been a great experience to be participants.
"You grow closer to people," said Tani Lee, also a member of the cast.
Kaitlin Hallam Welds for the Win
Kaitlin Hallam, a senior at Spanish Fork High School, won top honors at a welding and fabrication competition at the State Fair, bringing home a Blue Ribbon and Best of Show Ribbon.
Hallam built a flatbed, multi-purpose dump trailer for the competition. She competed against other welders including members from one school that submitted multiple entries.
"I think mine was more sophisticated structurally," Hallam said.

SFHS Honors Veterans
Student at Spanish Fork High School honored America's veterans on November 11, 2014 with a Veterans Day assembly.
The assembly included special musical selections by the SFHS orchestra and band as well as remarks from a local veteran, Jeff Long.
Long served in Afghanistan and talked to students about his experiences there. He showed students entrenchment tools used by the Army from World War I, World War II, the Vietnam era, and today. He pointed out that with each era, the military made changes to the tool for the better.
"We adapt and become better," Long said.
Great Debate
There's no debate about it. The Spanish Fork High School debate team is on a roll, placing in several categories at a recent debate.
