Agriculture Education Teaches Hands-On

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Students taking agriculture classes, especially those in the Animal Science class at Spanish Fork High School, are privileged to be taught by some of the best teachers in the entire state. Kasee Smith and Tiffany Meyers take teaching to a whole new level at SFHS. On Thursday January sixth, students in both Meyers’ and Smith’s Animal Science classes were taught about the digestive tracts of ruminant animals (sheep, cattle, deer…). These animals are unique compared to most other species of livestock or common pets such as dogs or cats. A ruminant has four stomachs!

Jennifer Fenton Interns at Spanish Fork Clinic

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
From August to January, Jennifer Fenton a senior at Spanish Fork High School has interned at the Spanish Fork Clinic in the Radiology Department. Though she is coming to a close in her internship, she has given us some insight on what she does on a daily basis, as well as her favorite part of her internship. As a start, she develops x-rays and fills out computer work about the patients. This alone has helped her deicide what she wants to do as a career which she informed us is to be a radiologist, not a radiologist technician.

Teddy Bear Project Exceeded Previous Years

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The Letterman Club, HOPE Squad, and The HOSA Clubs joined forces to gather loveable teddy bears to touch the hearts of women and children at The Women Crisis Center.  Spanish Fork High School gathered over 700 bears.  This year was more successful than last year.  SFHS raised twice as much as they had in the past couple of years.  They went to the Bank of American Fork and from each club there was a member there to deliver them.  The Teddy Bear Project is known quite well in Spanish Fork High School.  Everyone gets involved so much to help out in every way.&nbs

Twelve Days of Christmas Delivered at SFHS

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
The Twelve Days of Christmas for Spanish Fork High School started on December 1st and ended on December 16th. As a school, there were different items to collect everyday for kids in need that have never had any new things. Some of the items included pajamas, school supplies, cash, new underwear, unworn shirts, gift cards, personal hygiene products, etc. This project was a good lesson for all of the students. SFHS students learned about the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is all about giving, not receiving.

On December 14, Spanish Fork High School choirs hosted the annual Christmas Gala. Guests were treated to a scrumptious dessert reception in the front commons of the high school. These tasty treats included catered brownies, éclairs, and hot cider. The decorations were wonderful. There were trees lit with Christmas lights and the ceiling of the main entry was strung with ornaments and garlands. The choir department went to a lot of work to make decorate the school for the Gala.

Window in the Workplace

Recently, Spanish Fork High School was lucky enough to have psychologist Dr. Liebing present at Window in the Workplace.  A room packed with students listened as she told them about her experiences going through school and working as a psychologist.  Dr. Liebing compared being a psychologist to reading a mystery novel, “you are trying to figure out this person,” she said.  Many students found that intriguing.  Though it takes many years of schooling to become a psychologist, the rewards can be awesome.

On Tuesday, December 7, an award was given during halftime at the Girls basketball game vs. Timpanogos. This award was the Daily Herald’s Battle for Utah Valley 2010 fall challenge. This was decided by an online voting poll for all of Utah County. Anyone could go on-line and vote for which school they thought had the best spirit for the fall sports; and of course, the Spanish Fork Don’s came out on top! SFHS was awarded a trophy that they can keep until the winter winners are announced.
