College Tours!

Submitted by bonnie.beckstead on

On November 1st, Seniors from both Spanish Fork High School and Maple Mountain High School had the opportunity to go on "College Tours." Seniors could choose to attend BYU/UVU, Utah State University, Snow College, University of Utah, MTECH Campuses, or USU Eastern. Representatives of the Colleges were there to greet the students, give them a personalized tour, and provide the students with information about their respective colleges. It was a great opportunity for students to visit a college campus and learn more about their post-secondary education options.

FFA Summer Garden Program

Submitted by bonnie.beckstead on

Spanish Fork FFA finished a great year with the school garden program. This was our second year selling produce at the Spanish Fork Farmers Market. In total 7 students worked throughout the summer in the garden here at the school, taking care of the plants, harvesting, and selling produce. This year we grew 250 tomato plants, 75 pepper plants, 30 melon plants, and various squash plants. Our harvest was great this year, in total we harvested over 3,150 pounds of tomatoes, 50 melons, and countless squash and peppers!

Change in NC/NG Attendance Policy

Submitted by jolynn.ford on

This is a reminder that we have changed our NC/NG policy this year. In order to graduate from SFHS, each student will need 32 academic credits and 32 citizenship credits.

At the end of the term, we will no longer put an NG over an academic grade for attendance issues. We will, however, keep the NC in the Citizenship column and students will still need to serve detention and pay for the citizenship recovery as they have in the past.

Please see the overview sheet attached to this post.

Student Athletes present Anti-Bullying Assembly

Submitted by bonnie.beckstead on

A few of our SF student athletes prepared and presented an Anti-Bullying Assembly at two local Elementary Schools. The high school athletes shared personal examples, did activities with the students, and told them how they "Stand Up Against Bullying." We would like to congratulate these students on a job well done and commend them for their hard work in both school and sports and for their good example!

National Resources Science Class Field Trip

Submitted by bonnie.beckstead on

The Natural Resource Science class had the opportunity to assist the Division of Wildlife Resources today with their annual Gilnet survey at Jordanelle reservoir. Students aided the DWR in pulling fish from the nets. Then, students assisted in measuring, weighing, and observing stomach content of the fish. Students also assisted the DWR in writing down the data for every fish in the nets. This was a great opportunity to get these students in a hands on opportunity where students could work with professionals in a career that these students are interested in.

SFHS Dance Company earns 3rd place in Region at Shakespeare Competition!

Submitted by bonnie.beckstead on
Dance Co. joined the Drama Dons in Cedar City for Shakespeare Festival and won 3rd place overall behind 2nd place Lehi High & 1st place Salt Lake Performing Arts School! This is the first time SFHS Dance Co has placed at Shakespeare and the team was thrilled! The dancers did an amazing interpretation of Hamlet while Captains Ashley Norris & Brianna White also performed a duet to Macbeth (they've since repented to Andy  for mentioning the "M" word on stage and performed beautifully!).
