On October 12, 2010, at Maple Mountain High School, the Spanish Fork High School Cross Country team competed with the Payson, Springville, Uintah, and Maple Mountain High Schools for the Region Championships. Although, Maple Mountain High School brought home most of the awards, Spanish Fork Cross Country, taking fourth overall, raced to win. Each runner ran to their best abilities and beat their personal record from Pre-Region. Spanish Fork’s Cross Country team was rather small, but with the help of the Spanish Fork Cheerleaders, Sydnee and Tobee Gunter, who graciously volunteered, the girl’s, Caroline Munch, Madison Hansen, Samantha Hatfield, and Allison Hallam, had a full team and competed in the Varsity race together, in a tight pack to the finish. The boy’s team was full of competitive runners, anxious to do their best. Fausto Guerrero, led Spanish Fork’s team through the Varsity race, along with Tyler Galt, Tanner Runolfsen, Chris Harreld David Smiley, Ben Rosenbaum, and Wesley Curtin. Because only seven boys are allowed on the Varsity team to run, only two boys ran in the Junior Varsity race, they being Ty Jurkatis and Alex Swenson. They ran just as hard as any of their Varsity teammates, sprinting all the way to the finish. Their coaches, Amanda Merrill and Reve Tortel, proudly shouted encouragement from various areas around the course. All the runners went home satisfied with a great race. While they didn’t win any awards, one runner did win the Academic All-State this year, a senior, Allison Hallam. The Spanish Fork Cross Country team would like to thank all who have come to support them run. They had a great season, and we congratulate them all, and hope to see many of them run next year.
