Last week, students from Spanish Fork High gathered in the commons area during lunch to sign up for the new clubs. Many clubs from past years returned, while others were making their big entrance. Students excitedly went around looking at what each club had to offer. Some of the returning clubs included Masque Club, Key Club, Hope Squad, Red Revival, and the Ping Pong Club. Masque Club is a club for anyone interested in acting and having fun. It is a way to get students out of their bubble and to become more comfortable in the world of acting. Key Club is a club based on service. Throughout the year they do many service acts and really do some good for our school and our community. The Hope Squad, which is a club fighting against suicides, helps uplift the students, and try to lessen the number of teen suicides. Red Revival, which was started last year, is a spirit-based club. The members wear their shirts to sporting events and pump up the energy at our games. The Ping Pong Club, which has been around for a while, is a club where students can together and play the game of ping pong. It doesn’t matter how skilled the students are, everyone is welcome to come and play. Many students join for the opportunity to socialize and to have competitions. New clubs also made their stand on Tuesday and Wednesday. Some of the new clubs that really caught the attention of the students were The Commoners, The Movie Club, The Jedi Order, and many more. The Commoners, a club focused on bringing back more student activity into the school’s commons, plays movies and music during lunch, along with games like jump rope, Twister and dancing. Movie Club is determined to get students out and express the love of flicks. Once a week, the club watches a movie whether new or old, and is a good way to get the student’s involved. The Jedi Order proved to be very popular during club rush. This club is focused on none-other than to bring the Star War’s fans together to unite. The club plans to watch the movie and play some of the video games that are offered. They also plan to start everyone at the rank of “padawan”, and by completing a service activity or other tasks, they can become the rank of a “knight”. Clubs are a very big part of a high school experienceand are a great way to get the students involved in the school. They bring a sense of unity, and the students have more opportunities to meet new people and make more memories of their high school years.
