Some students at Spanish Fork High School decided to take classes at MATC this past year.  While there, students learned skill that will help them in jobs like CAN, Medical Billing and Coding, and Medical Assisting.  Students in the Medical Assisting class have learned terminology, anatomy, and diseases and disorders of the body, in all the different body systems.  They have also learned skills like giving shots, drawing blood, running ECG’s, taking vital signs such as pulse and blood pressure, recording patient information, and how to properly bill patients and run the schedule in a doctor’s office or clinic.  Now that the class is almost over students are on the search for externships in actual medical facilities where they will gain crucial experience to further prepare them for real jobs as Medical Assistants.  They can look anywhere to find an externship, from IHC clinics, pediatric offices, gynecology offices, to an otolaryngologist’s office (Ear, nose, and throat doctor).  After all the hard work students went though this year, it will be very rewarding to finally be out in real offices helping real patients.
