October 8, 2010, Spanish Fork High School held another Spirit Bowl which consists of numerous competitions between sophomores, juniors, seniors and faculty. Among these competitions were musical chairs, crab soccer, dance off, cup stacking, and a relay race. In previous years, a tug-o-war was a competition but got replaced this year with the dance off. The Spirit Bowl started off with each class cheering as loudly as they could, showing their school spirit. According to Golden Money and Brooke Kramer, the seniors, class of 2011, were the loudest and started off the annual competition strong. Following this was the always exciting musical chairs. Song after song, the competition got smaller and was down to three competitors, two juniors, and one senior. When the music stopped, each participant ran for the one chair but only one was the victor, Nelson Rodriguez, a senior. The seniors now had 2 points and hold the lead. Next up was cup stacking, which consisted of an even number of competitors of each class on each side of the court. The goal is to run to center court, place your cup, then continue running to the other side and slap the hand of a teammate who then runs to half court and places their cup. This continues until there is a perfect stack of cups in a pyramid shape. Through careful stacking and quick running, the seniors conquered again and were 3 points up at this point. Up next, crab soccer, where 30 contestants of each class walk on their hands and feet in a crab motion and kick a large ball over a student (or faculty) section to get a point against that team. Each team tried hard and after 8 rounds, each team had 2 points against them, leaving only one more round. The whistle blew and contestants scurried and kicked and worked as hard as they could leaving the ball sailing over the sophomores, giving all other teams one point. Following this was the dance off, something that SFHS just recently added to the Spirit Bowl. There were five contestants from each class that danced their way through song after song, but as time expired and students were eliminated, the sophomores stood victors, giving them back the point lost in crab soccer. Last but definitely not least, the final and most competitive event, the relay race. This relay consists of spinning in circles, lassoing a teammate, rolling toilet paper with your nose, and finding a hidden key in bowls of food. The competition was close but the first to break through the door was the faculty, giving them their first win. After hearing the victor of all the events, the winner of the SFHS Spirit Bowl is not surprising, the senior class pulled out the win with an outstanding margin ahead of all others. This class of 2011 also won the spirit bowl as juniors and controversially, as sophomores. Overall, all students and faculty had a blast and, luckily, no injuries came about.
