Spanish Fork High School's National Honor Society is amazing! This organization donates so much to our community including 50 Thanksgiving dinners to families in need, Christmas to ten different children, receiving blankets for local hospitals, book marks for the Juvenile Detention Center, red ribbon week and so much more! The funds that the organization uses to support these services are strictly from an annual fundraiser. This year NHS decided to try a different kind of fundraiser, not one where you sell an item and get a small percentage of profit back. The fundraiser that the NHS members decided on this year is called a “Porch light fundraiser.” This is one where we let the community know via flyers about what we're doing and ask that, if they would like to donate. If they leave their porch light on, a group of National Honors Society members will stop by and pick up donations. On Tuesday, January 25th, students split up into groups and scattered all over town to place as many flyers as they could on the doors of their neighborhoods. Two days later, on January 27th, they returned to those areas and approached only the homes with porch lights on, asking for donations to help a great source of service to our community. By 8 o'clock that evening they had collected over $500 from the community. “That in itself is awesome that our community would donate so much!” said Mariah Dawe, a junior at Spanish Fork High School. NHS is so grateful for your donations, and guarantees that 100% of it goes back to serve our community. The organization has two different funds, one that's strictly for service, which is where your donations go, and one that the students fund for their activities throughout the school, and other needs of the organization, such as treats to celebrate the completion of each service project. The members celebrated Thursday night with doughnuts and hot chocolate! Five hundred dollars was amazing to have collected; however, they still have a goal of $1300 to meet and will accept any donations that members or businesses of the community would like to donate. Donations can be made at Spanish Fork High School's finance office, or mailed to the school in care of NHS. Please make checks out to SFHS. The National Honors Society would again like to thank the community for all the support we've received!
