On April 27th, 2010, Spanish Fork High School held its annual Keys to Success assembly. At this yearly event, Ken Garff not only gives away a new car, but they also give away a $1,000 scholarship to a lucky SFHS student. This year’s lucky winner of that scholarship was Mackenzi Berns, a Spanish Fork High School senior. She said, “I was so nervous right before they announced the winner; my legs were shaking! Then I was in shock when they called my name! I even screamed a little I was so happy!” Mackenzi is already on track to go to Utah Valley University this fall. She has received a full ride scholarship to UVU and plans to use to extra money to pay for books and lab fees so she can pursue her dreams of receiving a pharmacy tech license. When asked about why it is important to succeed in school she said, “By doing good in school, so many doors are opened. Both of these scholarships were given to me because of academics. It also helps you get a feel of how college will be. Good study habits now mean great habits in college.” SFHS congratulates Mackenzi on her stunning reward and wishes her luck in the future ahead.
