Last Friday, the Hope Squad visited the Spanish Fork Junior High eighth grade health classes as an assist in teaching the classes about suicide prevention.
The Hope Squad is a suicide prevention group who makes sure everyone has someone to talk to if they need it. They provide friendship to students who may not have someone to hang out with at school, and they play a role in keeping the school happy and safe.
During their visit to SFJHS, they shared stories about the power of being a friend, and about how we can make a difference in the life of someone else. They directed activities and games as an example to teach us various things, such as the danger of gossip and rumors.
The high school Hope Squad did a great job at educating the eighth-grade health classes about a topic that often scares or intimidates most, and they did it in a way that invites people to open up to others. They help create a safe, friendly environment that we all feel we have a place in.
