On Tuesday, May 9th, the Latinos in Action students attended the LIA Annual Conference at the University of Utah. The theme this year was "Stand for More". The day started off by listening to the keynote speaker, Dr. Jose M. Hernandez. Dr. Hernandez is an astronaut for NASA and he's the very first Latino astronaut that has been in space, is a published children's author, and will now be portrayed in an Amazon original movie coming this fall. Throughout the day, the students were also able to attend a couple of seminars on being entrepreneurs and on Latinos in STEM careers. This year our LIA also participated in the showcase portion of the day, where they performed a dance routine choreographed by our very own JaNae Harrison. They were AMAZING and already looking forward to next year's conference.
