Born and raised in American Fork, Ellen Magleby is Spanish Fork High School’s new Guitar, Orchestra, Band and Marching Band teacher. Recently graduated from BYU in 2010, Ms. Magleby has a bachelor’s degree in music. She has performed in Europe and the Middle East, attending a music school in Austria and played in the Vietnamese Opera and Ballet Orchestra. She plays just about every instrument and is most proficient with the Saxophone which she has been playing for 12 years and has been involved with music for 15 years. Before coming to Spanish Fork High School, Ms. Magleby taught music classes in Washington D.C. , Lone Peak and American Fork High School. Some of her hobbies include, going to museums and watching movies. One fun fact about Ms. Magleby is that she built a cabinet in high school during her woodshop class. Her favorite genre of music is Jazz (which she credits to her affinity with the saxophone) though she greatly enjoys listening to Jack Johnson. She is very excited to have a brand new band and orchestra room thanks to the new construction taking place. Ms. Magleby eagerly steps up to the plate, accepting the position of music teacher, a very important job to the students of Spanish Fork High. "Her teaching style is really different than any other teacher I've had before, but I'm really loving it!" - Hayley Chandler, a senior in the chamber orchestra. "She knows what she's doing, she's a confidant musician, and she's going to be a great teacher." -Tanner Greenwood, a senior in the Jazz band. She was interested in teaching at Spanish Fork, not only because there was an opening, but also because of the school spirit. Spanish Fork High School is famous for its generations of tradition. Ms. Magleby also states that she loves the school already because of the students. "There's a lot of unity in the people here; they're very community oriented. I like that; it gives the school a 'family' feeling. It's a large school, but it still has that (small town) familiarity, where everyone knows one another." -Ms. Magleby. We are all looking forward to attending the "Monster concert" on October 27th, the first orchestra concert conducted by Spanish Fork's new music department.
