Performing their show “Russia”, the Spanish Fork High School marching band gets ready to start competition season by spending the night performing basic drills, warm-ups, and their show for family and friends on Monday, September 13th. Following their performance, the band members allowed friends and family under the age of 14, to come down and learn how to march, and get a close up of the instruments. Katie Stansworth, this year’s drum major when asked about Monday’s performance said, “We did a great job.

“Ain’t no party like an SF PARTY Uh UH! HUH!” Spanish Fork High School came out with a bang into homecoming week by throwing their annual Fiesta! Everyone started to feel the fire and energy for homecoming Wednesday night, where there was a volleyball tournament, food, and a pool party. The night was a huge success! The Dons even broke a record for the most high school kids swimming in a pool! Not only was there swimming and volleyball, but there was also a giant slippin’ slide and dance music. The students had a good time hanging out, playing in the water, and kicking up the sand!

The Spanish Fork golfers were victorious at the fifth region match of the year. They shot a team score of 315 at Spanish Oaks to edge Uintah (323) by eight strokes. Maple Mountain was third at the meet with a 329, followed by Salem Hills’ 333. The Dons now lead Salem Hills by 24 shots in the overall region standings and Uintah is still in the race, just 4 strokes behind the Skyhawks. Maple Mountain is fourth, followed by Springville and Payson. Sophomore David Madsen shot 76 to remain in second place in region.

Tracy Poulsen, a teacher from Spanish Fork High School, broke some new ground and published a chemistry book specific for her class. The book is titled "Introductory Chemistry". She used the organization CK-12 which produces textbooks that are more adaptable, usable and cost effective. In writing her new book, she used "creative commons" as a resource along with what she wrote. There are a lot of advantages with this book, such as: students receive their own book that they can write in, take notes in, and also keep when the course is over.
