Our extraordinary English and Leadership teacher, Deon Youd, was awarded the Crystal Apple Award on Wednesday, March 7th by Horace Mann. Colleague and friend, Ann Dart, said this of Deon when presenting the award, "She is consistently “reaching her potential andfulfilling her educational goals.” Deon’s intellectual abilities are evident to all of us as we see her continuallysearching, reading, studying, and learning new things. Deon is definitely a life-long learner. We all know Deon as a hardworking, creative, innovative teacher who is willing to go the extra mile and take on a lot of added responsibilities to help make SFHS the outstanding school it is. Deon is pleasant and cooperative to work with, and I think that it has been the experience of most of us as we have had the opportunity to enjoy her out-going, fun-loving, unique, and a bit sarcastic personality. Deon is definitely an influence for good, a positive example, and a tremendous asset to our school, and she is richly deserving of this Crystal Apple honor."
