On May 3, the Spanish Fork High School band program held their annual band banquet. Band students and their parents came to the school where they enjoyed an amazing dinner donated from the Olive Garden. After dinner, everyone moved from the cafeteria to the high school’s Little Theater where some prepared presentations took place. First, the band teacher, Ellen Magleby, spoke on how she felt about what had happened during the year. Next, the Band Booster President, Carla French, had some words to say. Katie Stanworth, this year’s drum major, gave her advice to her fellow students. Finally, students were recognized for being leaders and participating in the Solo and Ensemble Region Competition. Time was then spent recognizing the seniors who had participated in the band program: David Andrews, Katie Stanworth, Kyle Lowe, Ben Morgan, Ryan Sowards, and Alyssa Wright. The boosters thanked them for being there and gave them some farewell gifts. Two national awards have been presented annually for the past three years, and these were each presented to an outstanding student. The first was the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, given to the student who been the best in the Jazz Band. This award was given to Kyle Hutchings, a junior who plays the saxophone and clarinet. Then the John Phillip Sousa Band Award, given to the student who had been the best student, most willing to help and participate, was awarded to David Andrews. After the awards, Katie Stanworth passed the drum major position down to Kyle Hutchings, who the director had chosen. The teacher revealed the next year’s show and the banquet concluded.
