Everyone gets to deal with many different jobs and career opportunities through doing internships at Spanish Fork High School. Whitney Hansen gets the wonderful chance to deal with babies found in the NICU (New Born Intensive Care Unit) at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, UT. All day she follows her mom and watches as she performs many different operations on babies that could be measured up against a regular dollar bill and the bill being bigger. Whitney said that most of the babies that are found in this part of the hospital are mainly twins or triplets and that she has seen some pass away while she has been there. Although, those moments are rather sad for her to see she said that she enjoys the hands on experience she is able to gain and learn from, and watching as some of the babies from the hospital leave with their family and start their journey in life. One final thing that Whitney mentioned is what inspired her to get involved her answer to that question is, “My mom inspired me to get involved because she showed me how rewarding of a career this could be due to all of the lives it can change for the good.”
