CRANES AND CLOTHING FOR JAPAN

The Spanish Fork High School Japanese Club has challenged it's members and students school-wide to help with the enormous task of folding 1,000 paper cranes. Why one thousand paper cranes? As legend has it, there was once a young Japanese girl who was very sick and close to death. She had heard from people in her community that if one was to fold a thousand paper cranes, a wish would come true. So she began to fold, as did countless friends and loving strangers. Eventually, the goal was reached, the young girl was healed and lived an amazing life, all thanks to the thousand paper cranes.
At first the Japanese Club thought that the historical and cultural significance of the thousand cranes would be a good way to connect with disaster-stricken Japan, but then Ashley Voss, president of the club, was contacted by a clothing company that was willing to donate one article of clothing for each paper crane that was made. Not only will Spanish Fork High School students be connecting with Japan through culture, but they will actually be helping in the relief efforts in the country. "The Japanese club is trying its best to help the country we love in its time of need," explained Ashley. "We would appreciate help from anyone in our goal." This is an amazing opportunity for students to reach out to those who have been affected by multiple unprecedented natural disasters. These thousand cranes will provide clothes for hundreds of people, and perhaps a wish will be granted as well.
