Todd Griffiths of Spanish Fork High School’s debate team qualified for state debate in the Individual Event Oratory. Receiving excellent scores on all his ballots as he progressed through the rounds, he made it to the finals. The best of the best in each school gave their speech in the final oratory session, Todd being among these students. His speech was on being an American; those who’ve heard it are moved by the impact it has on one’s patriotism. He gave the speech to the debate class after the competition and all who heard were impressed not only by the delivery of it, but also the message it had to share. Todd delivers this speech with impeccable skill, pausing at the appropriate times, changing his tone, and giving thoughtful expression as he speaks. The content of the speech really makes you think; it makes you want to become a better citizen and points out excellent ways on how to do so. This is why Todd is the third best high school debate speaker in Utah. He did an excellent job representing SFHS and his team.
