Two of our Spanish Fork High School students, Annie Darling and Lydia Money, participated in a writing scholarship contest from UVU and won. Annie Darling submitted a portfolio of six poems of various subjects and won first place, winning $100. Annie said “I wasn’t going to submit anything, but now that I have and won, it has jump started me to want to do more.” Lydia Money also submitted a portfolio of six poems of a variety of subjects; slavery, freedom, addictions, etc and won second place, winning $50. Lydia said “I tried to keep my poems heartfelt and with meaning, but I also wanted to leave the reader wanting to figure out the meaning for themselves.” She also won honorable mention for an essay she submitted that best summed up her life. She wrote about looking in the mirror and asking her reflection how to make a difference in the world. Throughout the essay it was about the conversation she had with “mirror self”. They both did very well and we at Spanish Fork High School are very proud of them for winning the contest.
