Tyson has held his 4.0 grade average all through his junior high and high hchool years. He says the key to success in academics is to attend class on time, be responsible to do what is required of you by your teachers, and get involved in activities you enjoy that help promote school spirit. Tyson feels it is an honor to receive the UHSAA Academic All-State Basketball Award. While being a student body member for the past three years, currently serving as Vice President of Publications, Tyson is a member of the National Honor Society where his highlights are working with others on service projects. His favorite subjects are science and math and uses his skills to tutor his fellow classmates in these areas. He is also active in music, weightlifting, auto-body repair, and welding. Tyson is a two-sport letterman for the Dons as a defender for the soccer team and a defensive end for Spanish Fork High’s football team. He feels like his success in sports and academics have come from sacrifice of time, lots of hard work, sticking with it when things get tough, preparing himself for trials along the way, and learning that adversity only makes you stronger. Sports have taught him to strive together with his teams and encourage others along the way –win or lose. Tyson realizes that carrying out his goals have been a joint effort. He thanks his parents, siblings, friends, Spanish Fork high School teachers, coaches, and administration that have been there to support, strengthen and council him along the way. After high school years are over, he knows he will need to move forward to successfully accomplish his future goals only by combining the objectives learned in athletics and academics. Advice Tyson has for the younger athletes coming up is: “Take academics seriously, get involved in athletics, school, church, and community activities. Never give up and keep focused on your goals so when this season of your life has passed, you can look back and say you gave it your all.” One of Tyson’s favorite quotes is: “With great power comes great responsibility.” We each have the power within us to be great; we decide what we will do with that power.
