SFHS Drama Team Takes 1st Place at Region Competition, Advances to State

Spanish Fork High School's competition Drama Team traveled last Saturday to North Sanpete HighSchool for the UHSAA Regional Competition, returning home with the first place trophy. Afterthree months of daily rehearsal, as well as many hours spent after school, their hard work resulted inevery single one of the 23 events qualifying for State Competition with a “Superior” ranking. SFHS’scompetition one-act play, The Little Foxes by Lillian Hellman, placed 2nd overall, receiving 1st placehonors for “Set Design” and garnering awards for senior Brock Larson as “Best Character Actor” andsenior Jennifer Grzybowski as “Best Actress Overall.”


In addition to these one-act play awards, SFHS also earned several medals for individual events. MattGubler and Emma Kristensen took 3rd in classical scenes, Brooklyn Young and Kenny White took 3rdin contemporary scenes, Michaella Hales took 3rd in dramatic monologues, Marty Sperry took 2nd inhumorous monologues, Celeste Thomas and Emily Wilson took 1st in classical scenes, Jen Grzybowskiand CariLyn Jenkins took 1st in contemporary scenes, and Ty Jurkatis (who joined the individualevents only the day before competition) took 1st in pantomime. Nineteen of the 22 events advancedto the finals round, with all 22 receiving an overall “Superior” rating, thereby qualifying every SFHSparticipant for State Competition April 12th-14th.


When asked about his opinion of the competition and the team, Brock Larson said, “My favorite partwas how all of our team was so supportive of everyone else on the team and the other schools. I lovehow our whole team pulled together and surpassed expectations! I'm glad to be a part of the SpanishFork High Drama Team!”


All community members are cordially invited to see SFHS’s individual events as well as thecompetition one-act, The Little Foxes, this coming Thursday-Saturday, April 5th-7th, at 7:00 in theschool’s Little Theatre. Doors open at 6:30, with performances beginning at 7:00. Tickets are$5.00 and can be purchased at the door. According to director Meg Grierson, “The SFHS TheatreDepartment thanks all Spanish Fork citizens for their continued support of our program, and looksforward to representing both the school and the community at State!”
