It’s open and ready for business. Renovations on Spanish Fork High School’s 50 year old library are complete.

Remodeling started in the spring when SFHS librarian Jamie Plewe and a team of students moved books and materials from the library to a smaller storage area. “We moved cart after cart down the halls,” Plewe said. After that  district crews moved in and gutted the library. Over the summer, crews replaced the carpet, lights, and shelves. They added a full computer lab for classes to use as well as five computers for individual students to use. “There’s no old building smell anymore,” said Plewe.

Plewe said her favorite parts of new library are the newness of everything and watching how the students react when they walk in the door. She also loves showing off the collection of old newspapers and yearbooks she found during the renovation and promoting new collections of study materials for students. “We will have updated AP and ACT prep books for students,” said Plewe.

Despite the renovations, a favorite feature of the library remained. Art murals featuring scenes from beloved books on one of the walls did not have to be removed. In fact, Plewe said, the library will continue adding to these murals. A contest will be held later this year for student artists who want to create a new section for the mural.
