Latinos In Action at Parent Teacher Conferences

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Parent teacher conferences came abruptly this term--being the shortest term of the school year. At this event, Latinos In Action hosted their very first fundraiser; selling delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts and hot chocolate.  They also provided a fantastic day care for parents while they conferenced with teachers. The funds are going toward supplies for Brockbank Elementary. Every other day LIA walks down to Brockbank and tutors kids in reading. This is one of their service projects that are in progress at the moment; they are also currently collecting letters to Santa for the Make a Wish Foundation. Latinos In Action are all about serving the community and learning leadership skills. The program is open to any student, with any ethnic background (not strictly Hispanic) who wishes to support the Latin culture. Although there are some requirements like maintaining a 2.0 GPA and Satisfactory Attendance in every class, students should consider joining…it’s lots of fun! Salsa dancing lessons and a Salsa Dance Party are coming up soon in April of 2012—something to look forward to.
