Kaitlin Hallam, a senior at Spanish Fork High School, won top honors at a welding and fabrication competition at the State Fair, bringing home a Blue Ribbon and Best of Show Ribbon.

Hallam built a flatbed, multi-purpose dump trailer for the competition. She competed against other welders including members from one school that submitted multiple entries.

"I think mine was more sophisticated structurally," Hallam said.

Hallam also placed second nationally at the recent FFA National Convention for her project in the Agriscience Fair. She studied the effects of gender separation on turkeys.

"Learning these things in high school is amazing. I'll have skills and knowledge when I get to college that others won't have," said Hallam. Hallam wants to attend BYU next year.

Hallam credits the strong CTE program at Spanish Fork High School for helping her achieve so much success.

"I want to say thanks to our program and Mr. Black. I think that Nebo School District has a good standing on CTE programs, and our school should be proud. We have a really good CTE program," Hallam said.
