Spanish Fork High School FFA, the largest FFA chapter in the state and the biggest , celebrated National FFA Week by doing several activities at the school and regional levels last week. The week was kicked off by a visit from Mayor Wayne Anderson. He eagerly agreed to come and talk to club officers and sign an official declaration saying it was FFA week in Spanish Fork. Mayor Anderson asked each officer about his/her future goals and then went on to talk about the impact FFA had on his own life. He said, “I learned most of the skills it takes to be the mayor through FFA, not my English class or math class. FFA is what taught me how to be a public speaker.” On Wednesday, FFA members entertained students during lunch with fun games and activities that showed everyone how entertaining and exciting FFA can be, and on Thursday officers and committee chairs paid a visit to the junior highs to play games with the younger students. These games were not only fun, but they challenged students to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. Thursday night was the biggest activity of the week. Spanish Fork hosted a regional activity at Lazer Assault in Provo. At the activity, FFA members and guests enjoyed laser tagging, black light mini golf, pizza, and a service project. Members cut and tied fleece into baby blankets that will be donated to Mountain View Hospital in Payson. Kricket Keetch, a member of Spanish Fork FFA’s officer team, said, “We want everybody to have a lot of fun playing laser tag, but we don’t want to forget what is really important. That’s why we’re doing a cool service project that will help a lot of young families. “ Over all, FFA week went extremely well. FFA members participated in fun activities as well as a service project, the officer team found ways to come together as a team to make things run smoothly, and non-FFA members got just a little taste of why FFA is so great!
