Utah Prevention Day

Attributions:

Governor Gary R. Herbert has declared May 3, 2018 as “Utah Prevention Day!” Utah Prevention Day gives schools around the state an opportunity to celebrate the prevention lessons that students have learned throughout the year. Teachers can review and reinforce those life skills taught before students leave for the summer. We want to protect our students from the dangers of drugs, under-age drinking, violence, crime, and bullying.

There will be a central celebration of Utah Prevention Day on May 3rd at the Smith’s Ballpark with the Salt Lake Bees and 12,000 students and teachers. Governor and Mrs. Herbert will be in attendance to present the signed declaration. Click on the link to see a copy of the Governor’s Declaration.

I would like to congratulate the team from the Nebo ALC who won the 3rd annual Code Camp. The Code Camp is sponsored by the Mountainland CTE region, MTech, and Xactware. The students had 24 hours to design an application, created it, and have working a working prototype. The ALC team had 1 student from Salem Hills HS & 3 students from Spanish Fork HS. Their application was 1st place in the business division of the competition. Their was application was designed to look at the blood sugar levels collected by a blood sugar monitor for several years from a person and use software to predict what it would be coming up and to make a prediction on a computer or cell phone the past several readings. They also created a website to market the product. One of the sponsors made a comment to me that they worked really well as a team.

Congratulations to your students,

Carl Lyman
