Kristie Stoneman Heads to Boston and MIT

After years of hard work, late nights doing homework, stressful tests, and all the other components that come with the joys of high school, Kristie Stoneman has finally reached one of her many goals. After visiting Boston and touring the campus, she has accepted a high-paying scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the most prestigious institutions in the nation, and the top engineering school in the world! Stoneman plans on heading to the Boston/Cambridge area in late August.

SFHS students participate in Utah Jr. Livestock Show

Students from SFHS recently participated in the Utah Jr. Livestock Show held at the Spanish Fork city fairgrounds last week. These students exhibited and represented their animals well in all aspects of the show. Tyler Galt, a current junior at SFHS, took home many of the awards given including 1st place FFA Judging Team, Market Hog Senior Fitting and Showmanship, and 1st place Market Hog Record book.

Spanish Fork High School Announces New Class Officers for 2010-2011

The 2009-2010 school year isn't over quite yet, but plans for next year have already started. The new senior council members are Kaitlin Urmston, Zoe Patton, Morgan Hansen, Garrett Harris, Spencer Pugh, and Mallory Hansen. The junior council members are Allie Winnie, Makyla Theurer, Madison Hall, Sadie Ethington, Courtney Acosta, Lisie Dixon, and Matt Russell. And welcoming to the school, the new sophomore council; Rachel Atkinson, Bethany Bramall, Jordan Brandon, Matt Stevens, Ella Warnock, and Dave Smiley.

SFHS Concert Choir goes to Region

On Wednesday April 28, 2010, Spanish Fork High Schools Concert Choir went to Region Festival at MMHS and got great ratings. Among other schools in the Nebo School District, Spanish Fork High School Concert Choir has earned a superior rating that qualifies them to perform at the UMEA State Festival. Concert Choir members let out a cheer when their director Mr. Shea Bradshaw read their scores from the judges. They received two ones and a, one minus. They qualified to go on to State Festival on May 7, 2010.

SFHS Band Holds Annual Band Banquet

On May 5th, the Band at Spanish Fork High School celebrated a year of fun and memories. The night was kicked off by live entertainment as the “Rock Solid” Jazz Band played while band members and their families arrived to the cafeteria decorated to resemble a luau. After a welcome by Mr. McKee¸ dinner was served, donated by Outback Steakhouse and Fresh Market. During dinner, guests were treated to a slideshow highlighting the band during the 2009-2010 school year. One of the exciting purposes is to highlight accomplishments and successes of the band throughout the year.

SFHS Tennis Team Members Are Region Champs!

This past week the Spanish Fork boy’s tennis team won the title of Region Champions in Region 8, hands down. These boys dominated in the varsity with only two second placers at the lowest. As a team they dominated, but also individually with five first placers and two second. Trevor West, Cade Sermershein, Taylor Christensen, Jesse Ross and Ben Rosenbaum took the gold along with Braden Beckstrom and Tyrel Prior grabbing the silver. This is the first time that tennis has claimed the region title in 34 years with the last title being in 1976.

SFHS Drama Department Are Superior at State Competition

On Thursday, April 15th and Saturday, April 17th, the Drama Department at Spanish Fork High School had the opportunity to attend State Tournament for individual events and one act plays. The tournament was held at Mountain View High School in Orem. Many of the students did very well in their individual events. Bethany Hutchinson and Hannah Carson each received straight superiors in contemporary scenes. Katie Cable and Matthew Cole received overall superior in classical scenes. Jen Grzybowski also received overall superior in dramatic monologues.

SFHS Student Wins New Car at Key to Success Assembly

On April 27, 2010, the annual Keys to Success assembly was held at Spanish Fork High School. This annual assembly brings together the entire school and a select number of students honored for their achievements with the chance at winning that free car. This year the car was a stunning 2002 Jaguar X-Type with only a minor blemish on the rear bumper, but hey, it’s a Jaguar! Are you really going to complain when you’r e handed the opportunity of winning a free Jaguar?! I didn’t think so!

Keys to Success Announces Scholarhip Winner

On April 27th, 2010, Spanish Fork High School held its annual Keys to Success assembly. At this yearly event, Ken Garff not only gives away a new car, but they also give away a $1,000 scholarship to a lucky SFHS student. This year’s lucky winner of that scholarship was Mackenzi Berns, a Spanish Fork High School senior. She said, “I was so nervous right before they announced the winner; my legs were shaking! Then I was in shock when they called my name! I even screamed a little I was so happy!” Mackenzi is already on track to go to Utah Valley University this fall.
