Choir - Vocal Jazz Choir

This year, the Spanish Fork High School vocal jazz choir has transformed into a female force called Las Voces Hermosas. This all girl ensemble participated this last week in the SLCC’s vocal jazz festival in Salt Lake City. While working with the clinicians, the group was impressive enough to receive an invitation to perform in the evening concert featuring jazz professionals Kerry Marsh and Julia Dollison. Las Voces Hermosas will be featured in the upcoming SFHS Spring Sing on May 18th.

Choir Tour

The choirs of Spanish Fork High School have just returned from competing at the Heritage Festival in Anaheim, California, where each choir scored the highest rating of GOLD. The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers not only scored gold, but qualified for an invitation to sing in New York City’s Carnegie Hall. For the second year in a row, the vocal jazz choir, Encore and the Singers Show Choir each won 1st place in their divisions. These two groups were also privileged to perform on one of Disneyland’s main stage performing venues. In addition, two of the choirs’ accompanists, Kristie Stoneman and Dee Leavitt, whose work stood out among festival participants, each received special honors for their work behind the piano.

Sophomore Week - Pizza Party
Battle of the sexes

Sophomore week was a big success at Spanish Fork High School. It was kicked off with a pizza party. For only two dollars students could get two pieces of pizza and a soda along with a live band, who performed in the gym during lunch. Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 was “hug-a-sophomore day;” all students were encouraged to hug their favorite sophomore. The next activity of the week was the Battle of the Sexes Spirit Bowl. Students of opposite genders competed in the games to see which gender would be named Battle of the Sexes Champion. The games were tied at the end of the games so a dance-off was in order. The boys were the winners, but the girls were close behind. To end this great week the sophomore council put on Morp, a stag dance for the younger students to go to with friends and no date. The theme was “Welcome to the Jungle”; tons of students attended and jungle boogied the night away.

Sandra Vergara

Sandra Vergara, a student at Spanish Fork High School, took first place in Region with her Reflections project. The project consisted of a video depicting what beauty is, which was the theme for this year’s Reflections contest. She received a certificate and a medal for winning Region, and will soon advance to the State competition. She said this about winning Region, “I felt really good; when I got the letter I screamed at the top of my lungs.” She was inspired to do her project after reading a book about Philosophy. Even though she is nervous about State, she is ecstatic to go on and compete. We wish Sandra the best of luck in State and congratulate her on winning Region.
